EP2 'The Giving & The Taking' Release 8/19

So excited to finally put out Drum & Lace EP2, called "The Giving & The Taking". For this second mood inspired EP I drew inspiration from the love and the struggle that surrounds one's relationship with family members and friends.

It feels like some of the most personal music I've ever released, and releasing that into the world is both liberating and terrifying.

Click thru the photos to be redirected to itunes, or just listen below on Spotify. Otherwise find it anywhere digital music can be consumed.

Feature in Industry Standard's new series 'Gals in IS'

Had the honor of being featured as one of the first 'Gals in IS' for Industry Standard's new series on gals wearing their jeans around their home.

It was wonderful to have Industry Standard over, and they took such lovely photos of both my home and moi (thanks guys!).

Read my mini-quiz and those of the other rad ladies in the series here or find the photos under the #ISNYgals!

Black Crane & OAD x Local Creative fashion videos

Recently had the pleasure of collaborating with New York based website Local Creative on a few videos that accompanied their style features.

The first was for LA-based brand Black Crane- the video was shot at a gorgeous estate in New Paltz and features Black Crane's SS16 collection immersed in Northeast nature and the beautiful home. To match, the soundscape is etherial yet grounded, but still with a sense of wonder. See the editorial with more photos here and watch the video below.

The second video was for handbag line OAD. The editorial and concept for this video were a lot more close to home for most city dwellers and is also wonderfully shot. The sound design and soundscape I created for this was inspired by footsteps (some of which are audible in the soundscape) as well as percussive elements and whimsy. See the editorial for OAD x Local Creative here and watch the video below as well!

A Juice With.... Racked LA Series Interview

I'll admit it- I definitely drink more juice than I ever have since moving to LA. But it wasn't until this week that I truly felt right at home in LA after spending a lovely afternoon with Ashley Tibbits of Racked LA for their interview series "A Juice With".

In what is probably the most candid interview of all time, we chat about musical guilty pleasures, LA designers, and the most recent Met Gala outfits. Find it here or by clicking the photo below!

The Palatines SS16 Fashion Film

A while back while shooting their SS16 lookbook, The Palatines' founder and creative director Jessica had expressed interest in creating a dance related fashion film for the release of their most recent collection.

Fast forward, and I'm excited to present to you The Palatines' first fashion film. Directed by the incredibly talented Basak Erol, the fashion film features dancer and WIFE member Kristen Leahy as she takes a tap dance break alone in a bathroom. The idea was inspired by Jessica's own background as a dancer and the idea of dancing when no one is watching.

It was incredibly fun to be a part of this project, and the sound design that ultimately makes up the sonic portion of the video is all based on the original tap sounds. It was important to keep the sounds somewhat organic, yet completely distorted and reverberated, so as to not draw the viewer out of the moment too much. Needless to say, we were all thrilled for it to also have premiered on NEST TOGETHER last week.

Watch the video below, and see more images/read about The Palatines on NEST TOGETHER

The First Monday in May - Fashion Documentary

It's been a second since the last post, and there have been a whole slew of wonderful projects that I've had the chance of working on (which will be posted soon). But this may be the largest undertaking of not only the past year, but career-wise, and was a few months long of a process.

Ian Hultquist and I had the chance of co-scoring "The First Monday in May", directed by Andrew Rossi, that "follows the creation of The Metropolitan Museum of Art's most attended fashion exhibition in history, "China: Through The Looking Glass"" (from FirstMondayInMay.com). Although we were introduced to the project early on while Andrew Rossi and his team were still filming, it wasn't until last fall (2015) that we really dove into the score for this fashion documentary.

"The First Monday in May" premiered and opened the Tribeca Film Festival 2016 on Wednesday April 13th and we couldn't be happier with the score, the documentary, or the reception that the documentary has had so far. The documentary also opened in theaters nationwide on April 15th, and you can find showtimes and locations here

Watch the trailer below, see a few photos from the premiere, and read some articles about the project below!

À MOI AW2016 NYFW Presentation Soundscape

Had the pleasure of working with À MOI again this past New York Fashion Week for their stunning Autumn/Winter 2016 presentation at Industria Superstudio.

The collection was inspired by elements of Bauhaus & Bauhaus Ballet (Triadisches Ballet by Oskar Schlemmer)- geometry and modernism. To complement the collection, the soundscape followed suit, taking inspiration from not only Bauhaus Ballet but also from circus and carnival music.

Hear the Bauhaus fun-house soundscape for yourself below, and checkout the beautiful collection on The Cut or on À MOI’s website soon.

TORO (Fashion Film) Premiere on DressLab

Working on TORO, a new fashion film directed by Charlene Bagcal, was quite the dream come true. With an incredibly talented cast and crew, this dark short film is centered around the concept of the Toro (bull) and Matador while wearing the most exquisite outfits.

Creating the music and sound design was extremely fun and challenging, and it was great to help tell the story through sound. The film recently premiered on DressLab- watch it below, and on their website (Dresslab.com/see/toro).

Music x Charity : Volume 1

In the spirit of giving back, this week we start our first Music x Charity project.

Keeping with our wish to support & work with emerging designers & artists, we wrote two tracks that we are licensing for a reduced rate for the next two weeks, with 50% of profits going to a project that helps women entrepreneurs in rural areas around the world get training as part of the Saving for Change initiative through Oxfam America. Read more about the project here: Women Entrepreneurs Project

As some of you may know, our rates for custom and licensed music are always on a sliding scale. For this project we decided to propose a reduced rate of $50/track and the choice of one (or both!) the tracks below:

*The terms for the licensing vary slightly from the our usual terms due to the nature of this project, and are as follows :

- non-exclusive license, to be used for a single project (use in multiple cuts of the same project allowed & welcomed)

- Use for web and social media content only

- Licensed Use: indefinite, but track must be used by May 1st, 2016

- Licensing for Music x Charity Vol 1 ends Sunday December 19th, 2015

If you're interested in licensing, or have any questions at all, please reach out either through the Contact tab above or directly to sofia@drumandlacemusic.com.

We will be donating the funds at the end of the two week Music x Charity period, sometime the week of Monday December 20th, 2015, just in time for the holidays.

Thank you and we hope you'll join us in wanting to make a difference through music!

Tanya Taylor SS16 Video with Swoon NYC x Kodak

Tanya Taylor's Spring Summer 2016 was one of our favorites from this past NYFW, which made getting to work on this beautiful video project for the collection absolutely wonderful.

The video, shot by Swoon NYC in collaboration with Kodak, was shot in both digital and 8mm film and the effect is gorgeous. We contributed by writing a custom track for the video, that resonated with the music that was played during the presentation at the Swiss Institute.

Watch the video below, which includes an art installation by HOT TEA

Drum & Lace interview for Smashbox Studios

We felt so honored to have been featured on the Smashbox Studios blog 'The Hype' just as we were getting ready to head to NYFW last month. We chatted about what shows we were excited to see while in New York as well as filling them in on what we're all about.

Clare Bare Summer Video

Long overdue post about this incredibly fun project we got to work on with ethical lingerie company Clare Bare, as well as with some of our favorite collaborators Victoria Wall-Harris (videographer) and Bethany Johnson (Hair/MUA).

Shot on location in the Silverlake hills, we are so happy with how this video turned out and the overall vibe of it all. When composing the custom track we were inspired by 60's fun organ and bell based music, which we thought would work great for just a fun 'day-in-the-life', as modeled by Mackenzie Brassfield.

See the video below, or up on the Clare Bare website!

Hunter & Fox x Drum & Lace Portrait Video Series

A few weeks ago, Erin and Frankie of Hunter & Fox came to our studio to document our process while writing music for a project. We love the resulting video, for which we got to write a fun upbeat track. See the video below and on hunternfox.com, and listen to the track "Typo" that we wrote on our Soundcloud

Some press love from Liner Magazine and WTF Digital

It's so exciting and such an honor to have Drum & Lace featured in two publications that we really love- Liner Magazine and WTF Digital. Both are run by strong and dedicated ladies that have really created something special with their respective stories and content.

Playing Catch-up - What we've been up to

Hello there,

We got swept up in a whirlwind of wonderful projects over the course of the last few months and have had a great and fun summer so far.

Since we last posted, we've working on a multitude of projects, some of which are posted below. We will be rolling out more as they are released too, so keep an eye out for those in the next few weeks as well.

We worked with Smartglamour again to bring their Summer 2015 video Lookbook to life with a custom track inspired by some chill, rock, pool hangs.

We've been big fans of both Kara Elise and Darling Magazine for some time, and were so excited when we were asked to provide music for Kara Elise's new cooking videos for By Kara Elise as part of Darling Cooks. You can see the first video below, filmed by our friends at Hunter & Fox.

Most recently, we joined our favorite local (Eagle Rock) designer consignment shop Gift of Garb on set in Malibu to film, and then score, a behind the scenes video for some of their favorite pieces for Summer 2015.

Needless to say, we've felt so lucky to have gotten to work with so many wonderful folks in the last few months. Thanks for catching up with us, and hope you're all having a wonderful summer!
